1. play rationale
We design and develop with our play architecture foundation at the core.
As the first step in our process, we rationalise and strategies on the criteria that makes up good play, specific to your space, in turn setting up a master plan for your play area to be built upon.
2. client brief & collaboration
Separate to our play rationale, we collaborate with you to develop a client brief, workshopping ideas and bringing you into the conversation of how play value is attained through components within our design.
As the project progresses we adapt and problem solve together, working towards a common goal of delivering a built result on budget and as per our original design intent.
3. ideation & conceptual development
Taking the brief and architecture developed earlier in the process, we look to put ideas to paper, ideating the space, components, usability and overall play value. An initial high level cost analysis is also run, highlighting any concepts that may be over budget.
These ideas are presented to you in rough sketches, 3d images and floorpans, highlighting the key components/features of the concept, the visual impact, design and intent and overall play value.
4. concept development
Through collaborative workshopping of our original concepts, we set a direction for the play space moving forward. Rationalising the design further we begin to model the play space to a higher degree, looking at individual components in more detail and referencing back to our initial benchmarks to ensure that as the design develops we do not lose site of the initial intent.
At this stage we also look at our original cost analysis in more detail and if required, adapting the concept through design to meet overall project budgets.
We will also put any custom play components and set out’s through an initial 3rd party safety certification check, highlighting any potential issues that will be resolved during detail design stage.
5. detail design
After presenting the conceptual development to you and working through any changes, we begin our detail design stage. It’s here that we look at components, layouts and site works in more detail, refining them to a level where structure, engineering, material properties, usability, safety and play value are all resolved and adapted to meet the project goals and budget.

7. fabrication and procurement
The accurate translation of our concepts into high quality built results requires a design-led approach throughout the fabrication and supply stages.
To achieve this we document our projects for fabrication in house, working collaboratively with our suppliers early on in the project to confirm that our design work is viable and within cost.
As fabrication commences we filter any unforeseen build decisions from suppliers through our team, ensuring the original design intent remains as we problem solve creatively and through design.
It’s our belief that this approach to fabrication is crucial in the delivery of custom play spaces. It’s all to often that great ideas for play are poorly executed due to lack of direction and understanding during conceptualisation and fabrication. We are committed to doing it better and delivering to higher levels of quality and value.
8. installation and certification
Our installations are about creating truly rewarding spaces to play.
We are able to deliver on this by installing play spaces that are founded on our play architecture, feature the best play components available, are certified to the Australian safety standards and are built to the highest level of quality and finish.
